Do I need to install Java on my RHEL server in order for Ephesoft to run.

No. It can however be useful to install for external tools and in order to open the java ControlPanel in the Java JDK that is included with Ephesoft.

First you must check to see if you have OpenJDK installed. While this flavor of JDK will work with Linux, we have seen issues starting the java Control Panel if you have this installed rather than Oracle JDK. CentOS ships with OpenJDK.

First check your version of java. in a terminal window, type:

[blockquote float=”left”]java -version[/blockquote]

If OpenJDK is installed, you will see the following return for java -version:

[blockquote float=”left”][root@EphesoftServer ephesoft]# java -version
java version “1.7.0_65″
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (rhel- u65-b17)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 24.65-b04, mixed mode)

If you have OpenJDK, you must first uninstall OpenJDK before you can install Oracle JDK. To uninstall OpenJDK, type the following in a terminal window:

[blockquote float=”left”]sudo yum remove java*[/blockquote]

Install Oracle JDK on RHEL 6.5:

First go to the following website

Accept license and download jdk-7u67-linux-x64.rpm which is the third down

type the following line by line pressing enter in between in a terminal window:

[blockquote float=”left”]Cd ~/Downloads

Sudo rpm –Uvh jdk-7u67-linux-x64.rpm

alternatives –install /usr/bin/java java /usr/java/latest/jre/bin/java 200000

alternatives –install /usr/bin/javaws javaws /usr/java/latest/jre/bin/javaws 200000

alternatives –install /usr/lib64/mozilla/plugins/ /usr/java/latest/jre/lib/amd64/ 200000

alternatives –install /usr/bin/javac javac /usr/java/latest/bin/javac 200000

alternatives –install /usr/bin/jar jar /usr/java/latest/bin/jar 200000[/blockquote]

Test your install of Oracle Java:

In a terminal type the following:

[blockquote float=”left”]java –version
javac –version
