This document introduces Ephesoft Transact 2020.1 and provides a short description of new features and enhancements, as well as software updates and workarounds for known issues.

Ephesoft Transact 2020.1 is available on both Windows and Linux. Refer to Transact 2020.1 for links to the installation guides.

For customers requesting a new license file, Ephesoft has introduced the License Management Portal. All license requests must be submitted through the portal.

Refer to License Management Portal Video Tutorial for more information.

If you are upgrading to Ephesoft Transact 2020.1 from a previous release, you may be required to obtain a new license file for your environment.

Customers on the following versions do not require a new license when upgrading to Ephesoft Transact 2020.1, and can upgrade directly to 2020.1 from the below versions:

Customers using Ephesoft Transact versions earlier than 4.5.0.0 are required to first upgrade to 4.5.0.0 and obtain a new license file. From version 4.5.0.0, customers can then upgrade directly to 2020.1.

Refer to the Licensing Requirements for more information.

We are pleased to introduce the following new features in Ephesoft Transact 2020.1:

Magnification Mode enhances text magnification on both the Classification and Validation Review screens. Magnification Mode replaces the Zoom Overlay feature first introduced in release 4.5.0.0. Using Magnification Mode, operators can easily locate and enlarge data that appears in small text on document images.

Features introduced with Magnification Mode include an adjustable magnification area, further zoom and rotation functionality within the magnified area, and OCR text extraction from the magnified panel.

Refer to the Magnification Mode user guide for more information.

Ephesoft Transact 2020.1 offers a property file-based Web Scanner silent installer, allowing IT administrators to remotely install, uninstall and upgrade the Web Scanner client software to end-user workstations. These actions can be deployed from one main installer to numerous workstations, with no end-user interaction required.

The following enhancements were added to the existing Ephesoft Transact features below:

Ephesoft Transact 2020.1 enhances the Ephesoft Cloud HyperExtender plugin with several new features outlined in the Ephesoft Cloud HyperExtender Plugin 2020.1.

The Import Batch Class dialog box now includes new options for handling Global Document Types in the Batch Class import process. This upgrade preserves the administrators preferred Document Type in the destination environment, and maintains all index fields and extraction rules as defined during the Batch Class import.

From the Import Batch Class dialog box, administrators can now link Global Document Types to the Global Batch Class. If any Global Document Type in the imported Batch Class is identified as missing in the destination environment, administrators can choose to create those document types in the destination Global Batch Class, and the document type will be linked to the local Batch Class being imported.

Refer to Importing a Batch Class in Importing and Exporting Batch Classes for more information.

Batch XML functionality has been expanded to preserve XY coordinate information for extracted values, and indicate how index field values were extracted.

In versions 4.5.0.0 through 2019.2, XY coordinate values were removed from the Batch XML file when an operator manually changed an index field value or extracted a new value in the Validation Review screen. In Ephesoft Transact 2020.1, XY coordinates for extracted values are maintained in the <CoordinatesList> element within the Document Level Fields (DLF) section of the batch.xml file.

Batch.xml files in 2020.1 now also include an element called <ExtractionType> that is added to the XML structure within the DLF section. This element indicates whether the index field values were extracted automatically or manually by the operator.

Refer to Document-Level Fields in Batch.XML and XSD Schema for Developers for more information.

As of Ephesoft Transact 2020.1, GhostScript for Linux is no longer available within Ephesoft Transact as a file interpretation software. To replace GhostScript’s specific functionalities, three Linux-based plugins have been updated and tested to deliver comparable file size, image quality and performance.

Important: For existing Ephesoft Transact users, further configuration may be necessary to meet original image quality settings. When upgrading to Ephesoft Transact 2020.1 from a previous version, plugin settings will be automatically changed, and previous image quality configuration may be lost. Customers upgrading to Ephesoft Transact 2020.1 in Linux are advised to test a series of small batches prior to running a full-scale batch class, to verify all files are returned with satisfactory image quality.

Additional API Web Services are available with Ephesoft Transact 2020.1, providing enhanced programmatic functions within Batch Class and Document Type management. These APIs provide configuration settings at the document type, index field and extraction rule levels, and allow developers to programmatically maintain similarities between index fields and document types.

Refer to Web Services Explorer for more information.

Ephesoft Transact 2020.1 has been updated to better support Chinese (Simplified and Traditional) and Thai languages for content classification and extraction. This latest version of Ephesoft Transact offers numerous software updates, OCR improvements, and extensive support for regular expressions necessary to extract Chinese and Thai data from unstructured documents.

These two languages are being offered in a beta release. Contact tickets@ephesoft.com for testing assistance.

This section, formerly titled Bug Fixes, identifies issues found in previous releases of Ephesoft Transact that have been addressed in version 2020.1.

For a list of Ephesoft Transact software updates, refer here for more information.

For a list of Ephesoft Transact known issues and workarounds, refer here for more information.

For a list of operating systems and databases that are compatible with Transact 2020.1, refer to Platform Configuration and Third-Party Integrations.

As of April 2020, all Ephesoft Transact releases from 4.1.X.X through 4.5.0.0 will reach end of life. Once moved to end of life, support and maintenance for these versions will no longer be provided.

For all software and database versions that have reached or will soon reach end of life, please refer here.

Licensing
