Do not run the <code>yum update<\/code> command, as this updates RHEL to an unsupported version. Refer to <a href=\"https:\/\/ephesoft.com\/docs\/how-to-update-to-a-previous-version-of-rhel\/\">How to Update to a Previous Version of RHEL<\/a> for more information.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Installation types \u2014 normal or silent<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><a id=\"post-46332-_heading=h.1fob9te\"><\/a>Upgrade Overview<\/h3>\n<p>The process of upgrading to Ephesoft Transact 2020.1.03 follows this general sequence of tasks.<\/p>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>Installation Task<\/strong><\/td>\n<td><strong>General Scope of Activity<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><a href=\"#post-46332-_heading=h.3znysh7\">Prerequisites<\/a><\/td>\n<td>Prepare to upgrade by gathering the required resources and verifying that the environment and databases are supported.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><a href=\"#post-46332-_heading=h.tyjcwt\">Prepare the Server for Upgrade<\/a><\/td>\n<td>Perform these steps to prepare the server for the upgrade installer.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><a href=\"#post-46332-_heading=h.3dy6vkm\">Download and Run the Ephesoft Transact Installer<\/a><\/td>\n<td>Run the Ephesoft Transact installer in the command line interface.<\/p>\n<p>For a silent upgrade, provide the required configurations in the <strong>config.properties<\/strong> file.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><a href=\"#post-46332-_heading=h.4d34og8\">Select Normal or Silent Upgrade<\/a><\/td>\n<td>Determine if you are performing a normal or silent upgrade and follow the steps for your selected option.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><a href=\"#post-46332-_heading=h.lnxbz9\">License and Launch Ephesoft Transact 2020.1.03<\/a><\/td>\n<td>Perform these steps to complete the upgrade for Ephesoft Transact 2020.1.03.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<h2><a id=\"post-46332-_heading=h.3znysh7\"><\/a>Prerequisites<\/h2>\n<p>Perform these steps for a successful software upgrade and startup:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Determine if you need to perform a single-server or multi-server upgrade.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Important:<\/strong> Steps unique to a multi-server environment upgrade are identified where applicable.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li>Verify that the existing installation of Ephesoft Transact is supported for direct upgrade to Ephesoft Transact 2020.1.03<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>If the system is currently running Ephesoft Transact version 2020.1 or above, your system is supported for a direct upgrade to Ephesoft Transact 2020.1.03<\/li>\n<li>If the system is currently running a release prior to Ephesoft Transact 2020.1, you will need to upgrade to version 2020.1 before upgrading to Ephesoft Transact 2020.1.03.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Important:<\/strong> If you are required to perform an intermediate upgrade, then you must launch the Ephesoft Transact 2020.1 service before upgrading to version 2020.1.03 or the upgrade process will fail.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li>Verify that your database version is supported. Refer to <a href=\"https:\/\/ephesoft.com\/docs\/install-and-upgrade\/2020-1\/platform-configuration-and-third-party-integrations-transact-2020-1\/\">Platform Configuration and Third-Party Integrations<\/a> for additional information.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Important<\/strong>: If you are upgrading to Ephesoft Transact 2020.1.03 with an existing version of MariaDB or MySQL database engine, refer to <a href=\"https:\/\/ephesoft.com\/docs\/install-and-upgrade\/2020-1\/install-and-migrate-to-mariadb-for-linux\/\">Install and Migrate to MariaDB for Linux<\/a> before proceeding any further with the upgrade.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"4\">\n<li>Verify that internet connectivity is available for this upgrade.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<pre>nm-online<\/pre>\n<p><strong>Note<\/strong>: The installation will be interrupted if an internet connection is unavailable, as some software requires updates or installation from the operating system\u2019s repository.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"5\">\n<li>Verify that you have super-user (root) permissions. If you are not a super-user, execute the following command to gain super-user permissions.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<pre>sudo su root<\/pre>\n<p><strong>Important<\/strong>: The installation script must be run with super-user permissions, or an error will occur, and the script will exit.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"6\">\n<li>Verify that SharedFolders is accessible on the server undergoing the upgrade.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><a id=\"post-46332-_heading=h.tyjcwt\"><\/a>Prepare the Server for Upgrade<\/h2>\n<p>Perform these steps to prepare the server for an upgrade to Ephesoft Transact 2020.1.03:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Complete all in-flight batches. All batch instances must be in the <strong>Finished<\/strong> state for the upgrade to be successful.<\/li>\n<li>Perform a complete backup of the following:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Ephesoft<\/strong>, <strong>Report<\/strong>, and <strong>Report_Archive<\/strong> databases<\/li>\n<li>Batch classes<\/li>\n<li>Ephesoft<strong> SharedFolders<\/strong> directory<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li>Run all reports and ensure they are complete and in sync.<\/li>\n<li>If the Apache Tomcat memory settings were changed from the default, take note of your current configuration to restore after upgrading. Refer to <a href=\"https:\/\/ephesoft.com\/docs\/ephesoft-optimal-memory-settings\/\">Configuring Tomcat Memory Settings<\/a> for additional information.<\/li>\n<li>Verify registry information with the following command:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<pre>\/etc\/.java\/.systemPrefs\/com\/Ephesoft\/license\/core\/annotation<\/pre>\n<ol start=\"6\">\n<li>Ensure the following paths and settings are properly configured:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>Check that the path for <strong>sharedFolderDir <\/strong>matches the SharedFolders path currently being used by Ephesoft Transact.<\/li>\n<li>Check the registry settings to ensure that the DB Names and IP Address in Apache Tomcat\u2019s <strong>server.xml<\/strong> and <strong>registry<\/strong> <strong>database<\/strong> entries match. If there are any changes in the database information you will need to edit the appropriate settings in the <strong>server.xml<\/strong> and <strong>registry<\/strong> <strong>database<\/strong> to reflect those changes.<\/li>\n<li>Edit the <strong>SelectedDb<\/strong> entry in the registry to reflect the correct database type.<\/li>\n<li>Edit the number in the <strong>Value data<\/strong> field in the registry settings to match the database.\n<ul>\n<li>Select 1 for MariaDB Server(MySQL compatible).<\/li>\n<li>Select 2 for Oracle Database Server.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Important<\/strong>: If the upgrade to Ephesoft Transact 2020.1.03 requires a database migration or database version upgrade, these changes must be made prior to starting the upgrade process. Refer to <a href=\"https:\/\/ephesoft.com\/docs\/install-and-upgrade\/2020-1\/platform-configuration-and-third-party-integrations-transact-2020-1\/\">Platform<\/a> Configurations and Third-Party Integrations for supported versions and <a href=\"https:\/\/ephesoft.com\/docs\/install-and-upgrade\/2020-1\/install-and-migrate-to-mariadb-for-linux\/\">Install and Migrate to MariaDB<\/a> for additional instructions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Note<\/strong>: We recommend testing any software upgrade with an existing application before moving the upgrade into production if the software being upgraded is integrated with any other applications, systems, or workflows.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"7\">\n<li>Stop Ephesoft Transact running as a service using the following command:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<pre>service ephesoft stop.<\/pre>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"466\" height=\"37\" class=\"wp-image-46468\" src=\"https:\/\/ephesoft.com\/docs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/word-image-156.png\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ephesoft.com\/docs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/word-image-156.png 466w, https:\/\/ephesoft.com\/docs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/word-image-156-300x24.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 466px) 100vw, 466px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Figure 1: Stop Ephesoft Transact Service<\/em><\/p>\n<ol start=\"8\">\n<li>Ensure that the target installation drive has enough space for the installation files. You may require up to 8GB of space.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><a id=\"post-46332-_heading=h.3dy6vkm\"><\/a>Download and Run the Ephesoft Transact Installer<\/h2>\n<p><a id=\"post-46332-_heading=h.1t3h5sf\"><\/a> Perform these steps to upgrade to Ephesoft Transact 2020.1.03:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Refer to the <a href=\"https:\/\/ephesoft.com\/docs\/products\/transact\/download\/\">Downloads<\/a> page for information on how to obtain the Ephesoft Transact installer.<\/li>\n<li>Unzip the Ephesoft Transact installer by navigating to the folder containing the ZIP file and execute the following command:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<pre>unzip Ephesoft_Transact_2020.1.03_Linux.zip<\/pre>\n<p>If unzip is not installed, use the following command:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo yum install unzip<\/pre>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"638\" height=\"291\" class=\"wp-image-46469\" src=\"https:\/\/ephesoft.com\/docs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/word-image-157.png\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ephesoft.com\/docs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/word-image-157.png 638w, https:\/\/ephesoft.com\/docs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/word-image-157-300x137.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 638px) 100vw, 638px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Figure 3: Execute the unzip command<\/em><\/p>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li>Run the following command to make the files executable:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<pre>chmod 777 install install-helper uninstall.<\/pre>\n<p>This is illustrated in Figure 3, below.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"758\" height=\"38\" class=\"wp-image-46470\" src=\"https:\/\/ephesoft.com\/docs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/word-image-158.png\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ephesoft.com\/docs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/word-image-158.png 758w, https:\/\/ephesoft.com\/docs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/word-image-158-300x15.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 758px) 100vw, 758px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Figure 4: Execute the cmod 777 Command<\/em><\/p>\n<ol start=\"4\">\n<li>Run the following command to start the installation process:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<pre>.\/install<\/pre>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"335\" height=\"24\" class=\"wp-image-46471\" src=\"https:\/\/ephesoft.com\/docs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/word-image-159.png\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ephesoft.com\/docs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/word-image-159.png 335w, https:\/\/ephesoft.com\/docs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/word-image-159-300x21.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 335px) 100vw, 335px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Figure 5: Execute the .\/install Command<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Important<\/strong>: If the Ephesoft Transact installer stops during any step of the upgrade process, contact Ephesoft Support at <a href=\"mailto:tickets@ephesoft.com\">tickets@ephesoft.com<\/a> and provide the following files and details:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>Your distribution and version of Linux.<\/li>\n<li><strong>var\/log\/install-ephesoft.log <\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>\/etc\/Ephesoft\/Ephesoft.conf<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Only the root user has access to this folder. If the file does not exist, send only the first file.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol start=\"5\">\n<li>You will be prompted to decide if you want to install Ephesoft Transact as a silent installer (figure 5).\n<ul>\n<li>If you are performing a normal upgrade, select n and proceed to <strong>Normal Upgrade<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>If you are performing a silent upgrade, select y and proceed to <strong>Silent Upgrade<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-46472\" src=\"https:\/\/ephesoft.com\/docs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/word-image-160.png\" width=\"630\" height=\"371\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ephesoft.com\/docs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/word-image-160.png 722w, https:\/\/ephesoft.com\/docs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/word-image-160-300x177.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 630px) 100vw, 630px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Figure 6: Silent or Normal Installation<\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><a id=\"post-46332-_heading=h.4d34og8\"><\/a>Normal Upgrade<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>The following screen will display while the installer checks the internet connection. Press y to stop the Ephesoft Transact service on all nodes. The upgrade process cannot proceed if the Ephesoft Transact server is running.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Important<\/strong>: The following steps vary depending on a single or multi-server installation. The database patch is mandatory for a single-server upgrade, or if you are upgrading the first server in a multi-server installation.<\/li>\n<li>For a multi-server upgrade, the database patch is only required for the first server in the node. Press <strong>n<\/strong> for subsequent server upgrades.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\"><strong>Important: <\/strong>If you run the database patch on a second or subsequent server in a multi-server installation, you may corrupt the existing database.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"4\">\n<li>If Tesseract (an OCR engine) was not installed with the previous installation, the following screen will display:\n<ul>\n<li>Select <strong>n<\/strong> to decline to install Tesseract. This may take some time.<\/li>\n<li>The installer will prompt for registration information. This information is used to assist in the generation of your license for Ephesoft Transact. The old log4j.xml can be found at<strong> \/opt\/Ephesoft\/Application-backup-&lt;previous-version&gt;\/log4j.xml<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Copy the old <strong>log4j.xml<\/strong> and replace the new <strong>log4j.xml<\/strong> with the old one at <strong>\/opt\/Ephesoft\/Application\/log4j.xml<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The upgrade is complete. Proceed to <a href=\"http:\/\/post-46332-_heading=h.lnxbz9\">License and Launch Ephesoft Transact 2020.1.03<\/a>.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4><a id=\"post-46332-_heading=h.2s8eyo1\"><\/a>Silent Upgrade<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>Open the <strong>config.properties<\/strong> file located in the <strong>Response-Files<\/strong> folder. To do so, open a text editor and run one of the following commands:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>vi config.properties<\/li>\n<li>vim config.properties<\/li>\n<li>nano config.properties<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"722\" height=\"37\" class=\"wp-image-46478\" src=\"https:\/\/ephesoft.com\/docs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/word-image-165.png\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ephesoft.com\/docs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/word-image-165.png 722w, https:\/\/ephesoft.com\/docs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/word-image-165-300x15.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 722px) 100vw, 722px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Figure 12: vi config.properties Command <\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Note<\/strong>: You can also use <strong>WinSCP<\/strong> to connect to your Linux server and open the file in any UI text editor application.<\/p>\n<p>Edit the values for the parameters in <strong>config.properties<\/strong> to reflect the required configuration for the upgrade. If using vi editor, run the<strong> i<\/strong> command to enter <strong>insert mode<\/strong> and edit the content. The only exception is the <strong>log4j.xm<\/strong>l file, which needs to be updated manually.<\/li>\n<li>The old <strong>log4j.xml<\/strong> can be found at <strong>\/opt\/Ephesoft\/Application-backup-&lt;previous-version&gt;\/log4j.xml<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Copy the old <strong>log4j.xml<\/strong> and replace it with the new <strong>log4j.xml<\/strong> at <strong>\/opt\/Ephesoft\/Application\/log4j.xml<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The silent upgrade is complete. Proceed to the next section.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><a id=\"post-46332-_heading=h.lnxbz9\"><\/a>License and Launch Ephesoft Transact 2020.1.03<\/h2>\n<p><a id=\"post-46332-_heading=h.35nkun2\"><\/a> To complete the upgrade, refer to <a href=\"https:\/\/ephesoft.com\/docs\/install-and-upgrade\/system-requirements\/licensing\/\">Licensing Requirements<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Important<\/strong>: Ephesoft recommends restarting the service after your license registry is updated.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Compare the post-upgrade properties files against the pre-upgrade properties files. You must match the configuration settings of the post-upgrade property files to the pre-upgrade property files.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Note<\/strong>: The upgrade installer creates a backup folder to store the pre-upgrade configuration settings and components.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Use the <strong>diff<\/strong> command to compare and merge the pre-upgrade configurations into the post-upgrade configurations. Original configuration files are backed up on the same server. Navigate to the folder where Ephesoft Transact was installed and find the backup folder of your previously installed version of Ephesoft Transact to get access to your prior configurations, files, and settings.
