Form Data Extraction Using Nuance

This page describes how to install, activate, and configure Fixed Form Extraction using Nuance. To integrate with Nuance, you will need to use the Nuance Extraction plugin. These instructions are intended for Transact administrators.

Overview

The NUANCE_EXTRACTION_PLUGIN is part of the Extraction module. You can use the NUANCE_EXTRACTION_PLUGIN to extract:

  • Text data
  • Checkbox data
  • OCR form data
  • Hand-written data
  • Barcode data

You can also use the NUANCE_EXTRACTION_PLUGIN to extract data in multiple languages. Data extraction through Nuance happens with the help of template files (TLZ). These template files are created using the Nuance Form Template Editor application installed on Windows systems.

Note: Only non-cursive handwritten extraction is supported.

Installing Nuance Form Template Editor

The Nuance Form Template Editor executable is packaged with the Ephesoft Linux installer and can be found at [Ephesoft_Directory]/Application/native/Nuance.

Install the Nuance Form Template Editor on a Windows system. In a later section, you will add the template created through this editor to the NUANCE_EXTRACTION_PLUGIN in a Linux environment.

Activating Nuance Form Template Editor

After you have installed the Nuance Form Template Editor, you will need to activate the license.

You can activate the Nuance Form Template Editor using the Nuance Licensing Tool both online and offline. The following sections provide you a brief overview of online and offline activation.

Note: If you receive the error “The server couldn’t activate license”, refer to Nuance Form Template Editor License Activation Error 48 for troubleshooting.

Online Activation

Perform the following steps to activate the Nuance Form Template Editor online.

  1. Launch the Nuance Licensing Tool from the Start menu.

If the Nuance Licensing Tool is able to successfully communicate with the Nuance Licensing Server, the licenses found in the license store will display. It also displays the Hardware Fingerprint (HWFP) of your development system.

  1. Click File > Download to select and download the license file.

Note: If you have already downloaded the license file to this system through the Nuance Licensing Tool, select the downloaded license file.

  1. Click Functions > Activate.

Upon successful activation, the relevant Activation Date will display. Expiration Date is displayed only if you have a temporary license.

Offline Activation

If your system does not have internet access, you can download and activate the license manually. To do this, use a separate system with internet access and proceed as follows:

  1. Open a web browser and go to the OmniPage Capture SDK license download page.

  1. Enter the serial numbers in the area provided and click Download licenses.
  2. Using a portable media, transfer the downloaded license files to the target developer system where the OmniPage Capture Software Development Kit (CSDK) is installed.
  3. Launch the Nuance Licensing Tool from the Start menu.
  4. Click File > Load and load each license file separately.
  5. Click File > Prepare Licenses for Manual Activation to zip and save your license files.
  6. Click Functions > Remove to remove each loaded license separately.
  7. Using a portable media, transfer your zipped license files back to the other computer with internet access.
  8. Open a web browser and go to the OmniPage Capture SDK license activation page.

Your licenses will display in the Licenses area of the Nuance Licensing Tool with the relevant activation dates.

Configuring Fixed Form Extraction Using Nuance Template File

This section describes how to add Nuance template files to Transact.

  1. Create a template file (TLZ) using the Nuance Form Template Editor.
  2. Copy the new template file to the following folder:

[Ephesoft_Directory]\SharedFolders\<BC ID>\fixed-form-extraction\<your document type>

  1. From the Batch Class Management screen, select and open your batch class.
  2. Go to Document Types > <your document type> > Fixed Form Extraction.
  3. Map the template file with the relevant pages and click Apply.

The NUANCE_EXTRACTION_PLUGIN is now configured to use the mapped template file to extract data. You can verify the extraction on the Validation screen.
